Michael W. Schirmacher is an associate with Cohn Lifland Pearlman Herrmann & Knopf LLP, where he is a member of the firm’s Family Law Group. Michael represents clients in a broad range of family law matters, including divorce, child custody and parenting time, child support, alimony, equitable distribution and post-judgment applications. Michael also handles domestic violence matters. He is committed to providing clients with practical guidance, responsive communication, and effective advocacy while helping them navigate some of life’s most challenging legal issues.
Michael was admitted to practice law in New Jersey in 2022. Before joining Cohn Lifland, Michael practiced family law for several years in New Jersey where he represented clients throughout every stage of matrimonial litigation-- regularly appearing before the Superior Court of New Jersey for motion hearings, case management conferences, uncontested hearings, and intensive settlement conferences. Michael’s experience also includes drafting pleadings and motions, conducting discovery, negotiating settlement agreements, preparing cases for trial, and participating as second chair during trial proceedings.
Prior to entering private practice, Michael served as a law clerk to the Honorable Maureen B. Mantineo, J.S.C., in the Superior Court of New Jersey. During Michael’s clerkship, he drafted court orders, conducted legal research on matrimonial matters, and participated in custody and parenting time mediations, all of which provided Michael with valuable insight into New Jersey’s judicial system and established a solid foundation for his professional development. Earlier in his legal career, Michael served as a legal intern with Schenck, Price, Smith & King LLP and the New York City Administration for Children’s Services, where he gained experience in civil litigation, legal research, motion practice, and child welfare proceedings.
Michael was awarded his Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2021 and he earned his Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in Criminal Justice Investigative Services from the University of New Haven in 2016. While at the University of New Haven, Michael co-founded the University’s Club Baseball Team.
