Overtime!

Most hourly employees in New Jersey are entitled to be paid overtime for any hours worked over a total of 40 in a single week.

The overtime rate is a one and a half times an employee’s normal hourly wage. Effective January 1, 2022, New Jersey’s minimum wage is $13 per hour for most employees. This means that New Jersey’s minimum overtime wage is $19.50 per hour for most employees. However, if you earn more than the New Jersey minimum wage rate and are eligible for overtime, then you are entitled to at least one and a half times your regular hourly wage for all overtime worked.

There are a variety of positions that are exempt from overtime.  We can help New Jersey workers and businesses address any wage and hour problems. Questions?  Contact Alex Pisarevsky at ap@njlawfirm, or (201) 845-9600.
