Significant changes to New Jersey’s Open Public Records Act take effect September 3, 2024. The changes include (1) new requirements that requestors certify regarding whether the request is for a commercial purpose or is related to a legal proceeding; (2) a new cause of action in favor of public agencies against requestors where public agencies can ask courts to limit or even eliminate their obligation to respond to OPRA requests; (3) expanded privacy protections; and much more. Questions about these changes should be directed to Walter Luers or Christina Stripp at wml@njlawfirm.com or cs@njlawfirm.com.
