Cohn Lifland is proud to announce that Partner Jeffrey M. Fiorello will be presenting, and Associate Michael Alderman will be moderating, at the New Jersey State Bar Association Annual Meeting, one of the premier legal gatherings in the state, in partnership with the NJSBA Media Law Committee.
Jeffrey M. Fiorello — Featured Presenter
Jeff will contribute to two timely and impactful continuing legal education (CLE) programs on Thursday, May 14, addressing evolving issues in family law and the broader legal landscape.
Cold As Ice: An Update on Coming Out—From on the Ice to Your Workplace
This program explores the evolving conversation around identity and inclusion, from professional sports to the workplace, and examines the legal and practical implications of being “out” in various environments. The discussion will also cover workplace considerations across sectors and the legal rights afforded to individuals in New Jersey and nationwide.
New Custody Statute – Where Do We Go From Here?
Following the enactment of S4510/A5761, which significantly updates New Jersey’s custody statute, this program addresses how courts and practitioners are likely to interpret and apply the new law. The session will provide critical insight into emerging challenges and strategies for effectively advocating for clients in custody matters under this updated framework.
Michael Alderman — Program Moderator
Michael Alderman will serve as moderator for the CLE program entitled “Important Developments in New Jersey’s Anti-SLAPP Law” on Thursday, May 14.
This program will examine New Jersey’s 2023 Uniform Public Expression Protection Act (commonly referred to as the Anti-SLAPP Law), a critical tool in defending against lawsuits targeting protected speech and conduct. The panel will explore when and how the law applies, strategies for both plaintiffs and defendants, and recent case law shaping its use.
The panel will feature a distinguished group of litigators and thought leaders, including practitioners with significant experience handling Anti-SLAPP matters, the Honorable Alberto Rivas, J.S.C., as well as State Senator Joseph Lagana—the lead sponsor of the legislation—who was recently added to the panel and brings unique insight into the law’s development and legislative intent.
