• The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) are federal and state laws which entitle an employee up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for specific medical and family reasons without the concern of being fired for taking that leave.

Am I Eligable for FMLA Leave?

  • FMLA leave only applies to private employers with 50 or more employees.
  • FMLA requirements include working with the company for at least 1 year and a specific amount of hours.
  • Your employer may also make you take your paid time off in conjunction with the leave.
  • If you believe you are eligible to either of these types of leave and your employer is refusing to allow you to take this leave or if you feel threatened that you might be fired, it is important to seek the advice of legal counsel.
